1. Can't We Question?
Genesis, let's begin
Exodus, I'll walk you through
Acts, Know all that's written
Revelation, let's know
There's a supremacy in our midst
Trinity, three existences in our list
Father controls it all, they say
Son is also the father; then the spirit, same as the two.
It's all religion, they say.
But can't we question?
Offerings, tithes, development funds; it's one of their songs
Some preach, others criticize; to them, that's how it's done
This is no good news; a complete revision of the Good Book
Religion that tames us all
Do we have a choice?
Can't we question?
The elders of our church wore bloody rags the other day
Call themselves adorned, but never in white rolls as in the Book
Misleading teachings, all in dark dealings
Hypocrisy is winning, and I don't like this
Society sticking to the ways of the West; I don't like this
Why not question
Why not
The beautiful Book is losing meaning
Dark one using mere beings in his wheelings
Religion is a tool now; its edges are so sharp
But because it's from another part, we can't question
Because it's not our origin, we can't ask
We can't question
Can't we really question?
2. You Lied!
You lied!
1st time was good
You preached of repentance
Told us you are holy, no hesitation
We had to be like you, no resistance
There's something you never told us, though, pretender
There's something you were hiding; no idea
But why..
Why'd you lie?
I was only fourteen then
Obedience at maximum, could never say no then
You talked of respect for parents, and took you as a friend
Only wonder why you never visited your begetters back in the village
It's like you lied. Yes you lied
But why?
The women congregants believed you
All the acknowledgment you took for granted, proud you
Defiled them, the complainants to you were haters
Religion; like the skin of chameleon
Why did you lie?
Why?
Last Sunday in your church
Gave a lot to swallow; teachings as much
"Thy will see you son, don't go", your utter in clutch
Defiled me, the same body you called temple
Religion; like the skin of chameleon
Liar!
You're a liar!
Let them come for me
Come for me; I've killed the liar
Come take me; I've redeemed the church
The one to whom religion was a leeway to crime
Chameleon to whom congregants were objects of fun
One who defiled me; I've killed him
Invaded thy temple; he's gone now
He's a liar; he lied
Why though, why
Why did he lie?
3. The Newly Crowned King
The statement by the newly crowned king says, "The previous king only left a sack of cereals in the granary store of the kingdom, and that cannot feed the population for even a month."
A statement by the wife of the newly crowned king, now our queen, says, "An office be established within the kingdom but out of the palace for the queen as proof of her royalty." The king does that.
There are rumors by the sons, daughters, nephews, cousins, and all step-relatives of the king, "requesting" offices within the kingdom but out of the palace in their name as proof of their royalty. He did that.
Our traditions say that anyone holding an office of royalty must be 'gifted' at least a sack of cereals every thirty sunsets for the 'roles they play'
The bald 10-year-old twins from the local water hole are carrying 5 litres each of grey water home; they say it's for drinking.
The concerned elder twin is asking the other where the king would get the sacks to 'gift' the ones holding royal offices.
Our king is a religious king; our king will pray, and by virtue, by miracles, it will rain, miraculously, the granary store can even be filled with cereals overnight.
Religion is not bad, but how awful can we think of our own religion?
Look at our king yawning on his throne
The so-called leader is in fear
In doubt whether he should be here
One with a scepter but can't command
The only question of why he has the hand
Is it really supposed to be him?
Allies believe it's the king's calling
Of course, he made calls to get there
Some say it took courage
Maybe bumping off many in courage to get there
A king with no prowess, no, he can't lead
Is it supposed to be him, though?
He's a puppet king, confirmed
Vulnerable to induced swings, no stand
Though he plays his cards right
Only a matter of time(it'll turn dark from bright)
The king is clueless; nothing but promises
Was he the best we could find?
Respondents say they never placed him there
Allies say he deserves the throne
Yet to dynasties, a puppet in a war fair
He's trying, but not the right way
A king with no voice of command
Only questions of constant reassertion
Is it really supposed to be him?
4. He Alone!
And the gates of paradise would sway open; two pathways unveiling, one to the fires and another to flowers with the best of scents.
The gate to the fires is open, and one to the flowers shut cold.
He would ask, "Why to the fires?"
And a voice would answer, "Maybe you would have thought that He alone is God. He alone."
5. The Girl at The Cathedral
I once saw a girl light a candle at a cathedral.
She whispered, "I don't believe anymore, but I still hope."
And I swear, that was the most honest form of faith I've ever seen.
She wasn't waiting for heaven; she was building it out of broken dreams and a dim future.
The priest told her that pain has a reason. That makes her stronger.
That God's timing is the best, even though the wall clock at the church doesn't work.
She said nothing, just stared at the flame like it owed her resurrection.
And when it burned low, she whispered, “If He’s listening, then He’s late.”
6. What Your Priest Never Told You
Your priest told you that purity saves, but never said what happens when it doesn't.
When you say no, but they take it anyway.
When you're twelve and sit in a brothel bathroom and rub off the shame off your skin like dirt.
You were taught that heaven is for the obedient.
That silence is godliness
That forgiveness is power
But what if forgiveness feels like letting the knife stay in?
Your priest never told you that rage can be holy, too.
That screaming is a form of prayer, and sometimes the only church worth attending is the one inside your shaking chest when you finally say, "I didn't deserve any of this."
